Blown-in insulation is a loose material that keeps heat in or out of a home's structure.  This insulation type, also called loose-fill insulation, improves a home's R-value (insulation ability).  Blown-in insulation uses fine fibers that are "blown-in" using a blower. The filler looks like cotton candy and packs into spaces. It is widely considered the best way to add insulation in existing construction for attic spaces and wall cavities. It is non-combustible and does not require chemical fire-retardant additives.   The glass fibers do not absorb water, which helps prevent mold, mildew, rotting, and odors.

Batt insulation is a pre-cut form of insulation made from fiberglass or mineral wool, designed to fit between framing members like wall studs and ceiling joists. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, it remains one of the most widely used residential insulation types in the country.
